On this page you will find a variety of information to support and promote mental health and wellbeing. 

At Wheldon, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, including their mental health and emotional wellbeing, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We promote an environment where pupil, parent, staff and carer mental health are supported alike. We instill a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing. Wakefield Families Together (WFT)

Wakefield Families Together is a platform that brings services together so that it’s easier for you to find and access the support you need, at the earliest opportunity. So, if you are finding it hard to deal with a difficult situation, or have worries around family relationships, behaviour, school attendance, emotional and mental health, domestic abuse, parental conflict, housing issues, or employment and debt problems, Family Hubs can help direct to the right people and services.

Growing Health Wakefield 0-19 Service

The Growing Healthy Wakefield 0-19 service is an integrated service for families, expectant mothers, children and young people. Our public health practitioners lead on the delivery of the universally offered Healthy Child Programme (HCP) with support of our multi skilled team and partners across Wakefield Families Together. 

The team is community-based and deliver services in a range of community settings including the family home, family & youth hubs, schools and other community venues. The service works in partnership with other agencies to ensure all families receive right support by the most appropriate service to meet their requirements.

You can also find information about our service, your Child’s development, family health and wellbeing and local services by downloading our App.

The 0-19 Service is delivered in partnership with a range of health, social, education and voluntary care organisations and teams such as Wakefield Families Together – Wakefield Families Together.

Parents, grandparents, carers and young people in the Wakefield district can now download the new Growing Healthy 0-19 Service App, designed to support the health development and wellbeing of children, young people and their families.

Compass - Wakey Wellness

Compass offer a range of advice, support and education on emotional health matters. They use text, web based and face to face chats to support children, young people and families to improve and maintain emotional health.

Compass staff can work with you if you’re experiencing mild, emerging emotional health difficulties and you want to stop things getting any worse.

So, issues may include low mood, anxiety, managing different emotions like anger, being scared, friendship groups, being bullied or online bullying, friendship problems, loneliness and sadness would also be addressed.

Compass staff, working in local communities, will offer

  • Guided/self-help (online & face-to-face)
  • Psychoeducation
  • Supported referrals
  • Peer support groups
  • Parenting programmes

On the Wakey Wellness app you can get help and support with information about your relationships, healthy eating, being happy and looking after yourself.

It’s been designed specially for Wakefield children, young people and families as well as people who work for the community in Wakefield.

You can access the SHOUT 24/7 text messaging service to get hold of one of dedicated workers by text.
