Wheldon Infant School & Nursery

Religious Education

At Wheldon Infant School and Nursery we believe that Religious Education contributes dynamically to children´s education in schools by provoking challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, ultimate reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. In RE they learn about and from religions and worldviews in local, national and global contexts, to discover, explore and consider different answers to these questions. They learn to weigh up the value of wisdom from different sources, to develop and express their insights in response, and to agree or disagree respectfully. We want them to know how religious education promotes discernment and enables pupils to combat prejudice, preparing them for adult life, employment and life-long learning. At Wheldon Religious Education plays an important role, along with all other curriculum areas, particularly PSHCE and RSE, in promoting the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of our children. We follow the Wakefield Agreed Syllabus.
