Special Educational Needs
At Wheldon Infant and Nursery School we are an inclusive school where we focus on the well-being and progress of every child. All of our children share an entitlement to high quality education through a vibrant and creative curriculum which meets their social, emotional and learning needs. We take pride in our provision for pupils with additional needs and implement a ‘whole school approach’ to special educational needs and disabilities which involves all staff adhering to a model of good practice. All the staff of the school are committed to identifying and providing for the needs of all children in an inclusive environment. We believe in early intervention so when we identify a child experiencing a difficulty we work closely with parents/carers to offer support.
At Wheldon Infant School and Nursery we support all children, enabling them to achieve their full potential. Excellent teaching is vital and high-quality learning experiences provide children with the opportunity to learn new skills; acquire knowledge, develop their independence and a love of learning. We recognise that there are occasions where further additional support may be needed to enable our children to reach their goals.
Where required, we seek support and advice from a wide range of outside agencies. Our SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators) are Mrs Davison- McMullen and Mrs Southern-Hall.

Growing Healthy Wakefield 0-19 service:-
The Growing Healthy Wakefield 0-19 service is an integrated service for families, expectant mothers, children and young people. Our public health practitioners lead on the delivery of the universally offered Healthy Child Programme (HCP) with support of our multi skilled team and partners across Wakefield Families Together.
The team is community-based and deliver services in a range of community settings including the family home, family & youth hubs, schools and other community venues. The service works in partnership with other agencies to ensure all families receive right support by the most appropriate service to meet their requirements.

5 Ways To Wellbeing:-
SENDIAS information:-
Wakefield Early Support, Advice, Information and Liaison (WESAIL) service provides a free, confidential and impartial support to children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and their parents and carers.
WESAIL provide information, advice, support and signposting according to need by either by telephone or where needed on an individual or targeted basis or through events and workshops. We aim to provide easy-to-understand information to raise awareness of the options available to those using our service, and support people in making informed decisions about these options.
